Hands-free shopping in Hasselt
The City of Hasselt and CityDepot are launching their Shop & Send portal on 29 June, enabling shoppers in the Limburg capital to shop hands-free. The portal’s launch coincides with the start of the summer sales. During a trial period, some 20 shops in the Hasselt city center are taking part. In July and August the Shop & Send service is completely free for its users.
How does it work? 1. You scan the QR code at the counter in the store where you do your shopping and follow the opened link. 2. You scan the code on the packing box and put your shopping articles in it. 3. You enter your personal details and choose where you want your shopping articles delivered (at home, at the neighbors, ...). 4. You deliver the packing box to a store employee. 5. Parcels destined for Hasselt are delivered by CityDepot within hours, bpost takes care of deliveries outside of Hasselt.
The launch of the Shop & Send portal is part of a project funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the Limburg provincial government, aiming to create a framework for “experience shopping”. CityDepot has the specific task of putting hands-free shopping on the ride. The eventual shape or form of hands-free shopping may not be totally clear today, but CityDepot is in pole position on the way to the future.
